This is being there on the bouldered trail in an aquatint memory of horsetail falls before there were roads and before there was Yosemite. Elusive, remote and all encompassing once it comes into sight. Distant forest fire, stomped blackberry, air wetted moss, the roar of rocks and pepper, creosote stained leather gloves, charred bison, hatchet hewn logs, sassafrass, coffee crusted chocolates, iron root syrup, all smarting like the snap of a branch across the bridge of your nose. This is something that will be a source of romance only after time worn distance, always to be approached with caution and awe.
